She is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine, Irvine, CA, USA, and is an evolutionary ecologist who works on the evolution of plant breeding systems, with strong interests in conservation and restoration biology, particularly within the Hawaiian Islands.
